The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a rapid rise in digital remote working practices that are transforming Australian homes. To better understand such transformations this paper details how our research is evaluating the diverse impacts wrought on work practices, households and wider communities by working from home. Focusing on lived experiences of working from home, our research aims to generate new knowledge about the social changes that are taking place. In doing so we are interested in what we are calling the ‘expanded domestic field’, which includes but also reaches beyond households into wider communities through diverse mobilities.  We build on Blunt and Sheringham’s (2019) concept of ‘home-city’ geographies to consider how homes and cities are inseparable from the point of view of everyday practices and mobilities. Acknowledging such interconnections this paper presents initial findings from stage one of our research involving semi-structured interviews with stakeholders including for example HR managers, recruitment and union executives, and economists. These findings detail the challenges and opportunities wrought by digital remote working from the perspective of employers whose reflections oscillate around issues such as workplace culture and wellbeing.
