Eliza Crosbie
Eliza is a PhD student (Human Geography) at the University of Newcastle and holds a Bachelor of Development Studies (Urban and Regional Development). Her PhD is embedded within a cross-cultural collaboration seeking to better understand the aspirations of humanitarian migrants from the Great Lakes region of Africa, and to advocate for policy and practice reform in Australia’s settlement systems. Eliza’s project explores the relationships between African ways of knowing and being (Ubuntu) and the emplacement practices of migrants, seeking to understand how this might inform contemporary humanitarian migrant settlement practice in Australia. She has been teaching a range of courses in Human Geography, Environmental and Life Sciences for 5 years alongside her study. In her practitioner role, Eliza has worked in Community Development, both internationally and within Australia, for the past 8 years, specialising in working in cross-cultural settings.
