Petra Tschakert
Petra Tschakert, Professor of Geography and Global Futures in the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry at Curtin University in Perth, Australia, is trained as a human-environment geographer and applied anthropologist. Her research is on climate change adaptation, climate and mobility justice, resilience and power, and intersecting inequalities. Her current focus is on intangible loss and damage, everyday limits to adaptation, and energy humanities. Prof. Tschakert co-chaired Australia’s 2022 National Strategy on Just Adaptation, led by the Australian Academy of Science and Future Earth Australia. She was Coordinating Lead Author with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), for the Fifth Assessment Report (2014) and the Special Report on 1.5°C Global Warming (2018). She leads the research project ‘Locating Loss from Climate Change in Everyday Places’ in Western Australia and has previously collaborated with partners in India, Nepal, Senegal, Ghana, Tanzania, and Panama on climate adaptation and mitigation projects and programmes.
