Samya Jabbour The Institute of Australian Geographers Conference 2023

Samya Jabbour

Samya Jabbour is in her final year of a PhD in Geography and Cultural Studies at Curtin University. She has a professional background in Environmental Sciences, GIS, and Remote Sensing, and has transitioned her PhD from the Sciences into the Humanities Faculty to better address the cultural complexities of decolonising environmental practice. Samya is a first generation Australian with a personal background on both sides of settler colonialism and she explores this positionality through an embodied research practice. Her research is exploring issues of colonial oppression, displacement, and empowerment in the context of geographic research and Indigenous access to ancestral Country.
